Dr. Tarek Shahrour is a Consultant Psychiatrist at ACPN. Dr. Shahrour graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University in 1993. Before his journey in the field of psychiatry, he completed an internship gaining two years of experience in internal medicine in Ireland. He joined the Psychiatry Training Scheme of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland. Dr. Shahrour completed his training as a Consultant in Rehabilitation Psychiatry at St. Brendan’s Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. He is a licensed psychiatrist in Abu Dhabi.
With a distinguished career spanning over 13 years at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Dr. Shahrour served as a General Adult-Liaison Psychiatrist, Program Director of Psychiatry Residency Training Program, and Chair of the Department. His early career in Ireland saw him in the role of leading the psychiatric team, in caring for the homeless in inner-city northern Dublin. Dr. Shahrour’s international experience extended to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2005, where he established and managed psychiatric services in the National Guards Health Affairs in the Saudi Eastern Region for five years. His journey eventually led him to Abu Dhabi’s SKMC in 2010, where he held his most recent post. With a multifaceted role in academics and clinical practice, Dr. Shahrour also held teaching positions at prominent universities including Khalifa University, Gulf Medical University, and University of Dublin. Dr. Shahrour’s clinical focus centers on treating general adult psychiatry cases, with expertise in managing conditions such as psychosomatic disorders, migraines, psychogenic vomiting, and eating disorders. He has a profound interest in various aspects of psychiatry, including addressing the stigma associated with the field, psychosomatic disorders, the intersection of psychiatry and philosophy, and the use of cognitive analytic psychotherapy. Dr. Shahrour is an active participant as a member of the Review Committee of the ACGME. He currently serves as a member of the Accreditation Committee for the Psychiatry Training Program in the Arab Board. Dr. Yahya Takriti is Consultant Psychiatrist at ACPN. He earned his medical degree MBBCh from the University of Bologna, Italy in 1989. Dr. Takriti was elected to membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK in 2002. He had completed his higher specialized training (CCT) in Old Age Psychiatry from the UK in 2005. He trained in Family Therapy at the University of Leeds, UK in 2004 and has a Diploma in Psychological Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2000. He is also accredited by the Jordan Board of Psychiatrists and is a registered practitioner with the General Medical Council in the UK.
Dr. Takriti brings over two decades of experience in the field of psychiatry. His prior appointment was Senior Consultant Psychiatrist and lead clinician for Al Ain Hospital’s outpatient psychiatric services. He also held the position of Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU).
Before moving to the UAE in 2010, Dr. Takriti held the post of Consultant Psychiatrist in Leeds, UK for a period of five years. He was also Honorary Senior Lecturer and OSCE examiner for medical students at the University of Leeds. Dr. Takriti worked in various settings within the National Health Service in the UK since 1995. He is active in research and publishes and presents at conferences in the UAE and internationally.

Ms. Abu Taha graduated in 2004 from Hashemite University in Zarqa, Jordan, with a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics. She then went on to train in post-obesity surgery in Leeds, United Kingdom. In 2006, Ms. Abu Taha attended a training program for Diabetes Education Specialists in Amman, Jordan.
Ms. Hala has been working in UAE for the past several of years counseling individuals with eating disorders to implement the proper nutritional interventions within a specialized multi-disciplinary team. She obtained her knowledge and confidence to work with eating disorders patients after getting supervision sessions with international leaders in the eating disorders world such as Marcia Herrin and Dr. Riccardo Dalleh Grave (CBT-E). Hala has completed her CREDO webcentred training on CBT-E for Eating Disorders. She works with patients with BED, Bulimia nervosa, Anorexia nervosa and ARFID confidently. Along with her one-on-one counseling, she has conducted multiple training sessions in the UAE and Lebanon to multidisciplinary teams. Hala also took part twice as a speaker in the international conference for eating disorders (ICED) that was conducted in Prague in June 2017 in New York in 2019. In addition to her work with eating disorders patients she works on weight loss (CBT-OB), diabetes, pregnancy, nutritional intervention in after pre and post bariatric surgeries, childhood obesity among other health-related conditions.
Ms. Abu Taha works closely with her clients, building solid and trusting relationships, helping them achieve long-term dietary habits, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. In addition to pre- and post-surgery support, she works with homecare patients to assess and tailor the unique nutritional plans required for different cases. Beyond her one-on-one counseling services, Ms. Abu Taha has an active media presence, appearing regularly on televisions shows and radio stations as a dietitian to highlight the importance of nutrition on overall health and well-being.

Maya Fleifel Sidani joined the American Center for Psychology and Neurology – Dubai Office as a Clinical Psychologist with 20 years of international experience gained in the USA, Egypt, and the UAE. Leiden University in the Netherlands. She completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from VU University, Netherlands in 2012. Dr. Melisse is a licensed psychologist in the Netherlands and the UAE.
With over ten years of diverse experience in the Netherlands, Spain, and Saudi Arabia, Dr.
Melisse has worked extensively in the field of psychology – as a senior psychologist, senior researcher, and as project leader in various eating disorder clinics. She actively contributed to the development and evaluation of webbased eating disorder treatments, assessed their efficacy, effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. Furthermore, she conducted research on eating disorders in Saudi Arabia while working at Princess Nourah University in Riyadh until 2018. Carine el Khazen Hadati is a Clinical Psychologist in Dubai with over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health. When she arrived in Dubai in 2004, she was one of the very few licensed clinical psychologists in the UAE. Since then, she has played a pioneering role in shaping both the mental health landscape and specialized eating disorder care in the region. Her contributions include expanding access to evidence-based treatments, mentoring a new generation of clinicians, and advocating for structured, multidisciplinary approaches to care.
Carine holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Psychopathological Psychology from Saint Joseph University (Lebanon), a postgraduate degree (DESS) from the University of Paris V – Sorbonne, and a diploma in Profound Studies (DEA) in Clinical Psychopathology from the University of Paris VI – Jussieu. She founded and leads the region’s first multidisciplinary outpatient Eating and Weight Disorders Program, accredited as a CBT-E Center of Excellence. The program provides specialized care across all age groups for conditions such as anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder, ARFID, picky eating, and distress related to weight and body image. Committed to a non-stigmatizing, evidence-based approach, the team supports individuals in improving their physical and emotional well-being—regardless of body size—without promoting restrictive or appearance-focused practices. The program is fully multidisciplinary, bringing together clinical psychologists, dietitians, and medical doctors to ensure comprehensive and compassionate care.
A certified CBT-E therapist, trainer, and supervisor, Carine co-authored Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Young People: A Parent’s Guide (Routledge, 2021) with Dr. Riccardo Dalle Grave. She is a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) and has contributed to the development of global AED standards, including the Core Curriculum and Minimum Standards of Care.

Dr. Alaa Haweel joined ACPN as a Consultant Psychiatrist moving from one of the most reputable hospitals in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC). Dr. Haweel has been on the Specialist Register in the UK since 2009 where he had obtained a certificate that is equivalent to CCT from the Post Graduate Medical Education Board. In 2000, Dr. Haweel had acquired Diploma in Psychological Medicine from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He was elected as a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK in 2002. Dr. Haweel earned his MBBCH degree from Assuit University in Egypt in 1982 and had completed a Diploma in Neurology and Psychiatry from Alexandria, Egypt in 1988.
Dr. Alaa Haweel has more than 35 years of experience in Psychiatry out of which 12 years was in the UK, prior to moving to the UAE. Dr. Haweel worked as a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in the National Health Service in the UK from 2003-2007, prior to this, he had worked at St. Andrews Hospital in Northampton, the largest tertiary referral hospital in the UK as an Associate Specialist Psychiatrist. Prof. Elias Chedid is a Consultant Psychiatrist at ACPN. He earned his Doctorate in Medicine (MD) in 1993 from Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Lebanon, and completed higher training in adult psychiatry from St. Joseph University and Paris Descartes Faculty of Medicine, France, in 1997. He is a licensed consultant in psychiatry with the DoH, Abu Dhabi.
Prof. Chedid’s career spans multiple prestigious roles with 27 years of clinical and academic expertise. In his clinical practice, Prof. Chedid joined the Department of Psychiatry and Addictology at Saint Charles Hospital in 1998, where he served as Head of Department from 2006 to 2018. He later joined the Psychiatry and Behavioral Department at Bellevue Medical Center in 2019. Prof. Chedid was appointed to the CME committee at the Arab Board of Psychiatry in 2023 and is a co-founding member of the Lebanese Association for the Protection of Children of War and their Families (APEG-Lebanon). Since 2012, he has been an active member of the Lebanese Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ALTCC). Before joining ACPN, he served as the Professor and Head of the Psychiatry Department at the Faculty of Medicine at the Lebanese University. He has also been an Associate Professor at the University of Balamand and an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the Lebanese University. He has extensive experience teaching undergrad and master’s psychology students in psychiatric disorders, psychobiology, clinical developmental psychology, and cognitive neurosciences, and has tutored many completing their master’s and PhD theses.

Ms. Carine el Khazen Hadati is a Clinical Psychologist. She has a Masters’ Degree in Clinical and Psychopathological Psychology (University of Saint Joseph, Lebanon, 2000), post-graduate degree (DESS) in Clinical and Psychopathological Psychology (University of Sorbonne, Paris V, France, 2002), and a diploma in Profound Studies (DEA) in Clinical Psychopathology (University of Jussieu, Paris VI, France, 2004). She trained in a variety of reputable general health care and psychiatric facilities in the UK (Institute of Psychiatry, The Maudsley Hospital), France (Sainte-Anne Hospital, Paris) and Lebanon (St Georges University Hospital). Prior to joining the American Center, she worked as a clinical psychologist at the General Medical Center (Dubai, UAE) for eight years and as a school psychologist in two international schools and nurseries for nine years.
Carine joined the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology in Dubai in 2011 as an Eating and Weight Disorders specialist, and as a CBT-E therapist, trainer and supervisor, she has set up and is the director of a CBT-E accredited specialized multi-disciplinary out-patient Eating and Weight Disorders program (center for CBT-E excellence). Dr. Alsaadi is a Chief Medical officer and the Chair of the Neurology Department at the American Center of Psychiatry & Neurology (ACPN). He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Neurology at Khalifa University. He was trained in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of California San Francisco and was a research fellow in Epilepsy there. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology and the American Board of Neurology in Clinical Epilepsy.
Before joining ACPN, Dr. Alsaadi was the Chief of the Neurology Department at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City for 11 years. He previously held a position as an Associate Professor of Neurology and the Director of the Adult Epilepsy Program and the Clinical Research Program at the University of California Davis. His research has focused on conducting drug study trials for new antiepileptic drugs for patients with epilepsy, quality of life in patients with epileptic and non-epileptic disorders, migraine headaches, multiple sclerosis, and neuropsychiatric comorbidities. Dr. Alsaadi has been honored with several prestigious awards for his work in the field of epilepsy. He has served on the Advisory Board of the Northern California Epilepsy Foundation and the membership committee of the American Epilepsy Society. He has previously served as the President of the Western Clinical Neurophysiology Society in the United States and as the Vice President of CEMA (Commission of the Eastern Mediterranean Affairs). He is currently the President of the Emirati League against epilepsy and the Chair of the ILAE Commission for epilepsy in the elderly. He serves as a member of the Guideline Development Group (GDG) for the WHO. He also serves on the Editorial Board for BMC Journal of Neurology and Journal of Neurosciences. With over a decade of practice in psychiatry, Dr. Karrani served in various tertiary and
secondary care rehab centers in directorial roles guiding clinical administration, training
and residency programs, while also managing direct patient care. He served as CEO at the
Amal Psychiatric Hospital in Dubai since 2018 prior to joining ACPN in 2023. Working
extensively in hospital settings, Dr. Karrani managed outpatient and inpatient units in

Prior to joining ACPN, she was a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Coordinator of Counseling at Zimbardo Youth Center (Polish American Foundation). Dr. Wilczynska completed her PhD in Psychology in the year 2000 from the University of Silesia, Poland and went on to complete her post-doctoral studies, PhD in Habilitation (Associate Professor) in Psychology at Jagiellonian University in Poland in 2017. She received the European Certificate of Integrative Psychotherapy from the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP), Austria in 2009. Dr. Wilczynska holds memberships with the American Psychological Association (APA) and European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP).
While in Poland, Dr. Wilczynska led a well-established practice at the psychological center Partner, providing treatment for individuals and families for eighteen years from 2000 to 2019. Her academic role saw her as Adjunct Professor at the American University in Dubai as well as public and private universities in Poland. Dr. Haweel has been on the Specialist Register in the UK since 2009 where he had obtained a certificate that is equivalent to CCT from the Post Graduate Medical Education Board. In 2000, Dr. Haweel had acquired Diploma in Psychological Medicine from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He was elected as a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK in 2002. Dr. Nasser El Hindy is an experienced General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). He was also awarded a diploma in Clinical Psychiatry (DCP) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin. Dr. Rami Alshihabi is a Senior Clinical Psychologist at ACPN. Prior to joining ACPN, he was Director of Counseling and Senior Wellness Counselor at New York University, Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) health and wellness center. Dr. Alshihabi received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2004 from the Alliant International University – California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles and remains a licensed clinical psychologist in the USA.
His role prior to joining NYUAD was at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi where he worked as Senior Clinical Psychologist after his relocation from the US in 2007. He then was assigned as Head of Psychology Department at the Behavioral Science Pavilion (BSP) at SKMC in 2013 which he held for three years prior to joining NYUAD. Dr. Alshihabi has over 20 years of experience in assessing and treating all forms of mental health and social problems in adults, older adults, children, adolescents, families and couples. In addition to working with students at NYUAD and clients in the Abu Dhabi community, Dr. Alshihabi is a senior DOH License Examiner for all psychologists seeking DOH licensure in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
