
Dr. Alaa Haweel joined ACPN as a Consultant Psychiatrist moving from one of the most reputable hospitals in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC). Dr. Haweel has been on the Specialist Register in the UK since 2009 where he had obtained a certificate that is equivalent to CCT from the Post Graduate Medical Education Board. In 2000, Dr. Haweel had acquired Diploma in Psychological Medicine from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He was elected as a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK in 2002. Dr. Haweel earned his MBBCH degree from Assuit University in Egypt in 1982 and had completed a Diploma in Neurology and Psychiatry from Alexandria, Egypt in 1988.
Dr. Alaa Haweel has more than 35 years of experience in Psychiatry out of which 12 years was in the UK, prior to moving to the UAE. Dr. Haweel worked as a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in the National Health Service in the UK from 2003-2007, prior to this, he had worked at St. Andrews Hospital in Northampton, the largest tertiary referral hospital in the UK as an Associate Specialist Psychiatrist. In Abu Dhabi, Dr. Haweel worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist and was the Chair of Forensic Psychiatry Board as well as the Associate Director of Residency Program since 2007 till May 2021, at SKMC. He served as an expert witness for Abu Dhabi Judicial System for more than 12 years.
Dr. Haweel has extensive experience in General Adult Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, and Psychiatry of Learning disabilities, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences, in addition to being involved in undergraduate and post graduate medical education.

Ms. Amna Javaid is a Clinical Psychologist at ACPN. She completed her post-graduate degree in clinical psychology from University of the Punjab, Pakistan in the year 2010, and her undergrad in 2008 respectively. She further received specialist training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy from the Beck Institute, USA focusing on anxiety disorders including OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, panic disorders and phobias. She has also completed her basic and level-1 training in EMDR. She is licensed as a clinical psychologist in Abu Dhabi and in Pakistan.
With seven years of working with children, adolescents and adults in UAE and Pakistan, Ms. Amna managed cases related to neurodevelopmental disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and substance use disorders. Before joining ACPN in 2023, she worked at prominent healthcare providers including HealthHub Al-Futtaim in Dubai and Kids Heart Medical Center in Al Ain as a Clinical Psychologist for three years cumulatively. Additionally, she served as a clinical supervisor to trainee psychologists from University of the Punjab and United Arab Emirates University.
Ms. Amna’s approach to treatment employs a range of integrative psychotherapy interventions including cognitive behavior therapy and behavior modification therapy along with other evidence-based treatments. With a special interest in neurodevelopmental disorders and anxiety disorders in children and adolescents, she is adept at conducting psychoeducational assessments including ADOS -2, IQ assessments, ADHD and achievement tests among others.
Clinical Psychologist, ACPN

Carine el Khazen Hadati is a Clinical Psychologist in Dubai with over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health. When she arrived in Dubai in 2004, she was one of the very few licensed clinical psychologists in the UAE. Since then, she has played a pioneering role in shaping both the mental health landscape and specialized eating disorder care in the region. Her contributions include expanding access to evidence-based treatments, mentoring a new generation of clinicians, and advocating for structured, multidisciplinary approaches to care.
Carine holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Psychopathological Psychology from Saint Joseph University (Lebanon), a postgraduate degree (DESS) from the University of Paris V – Sorbonne, and a diploma in Profound Studies (DEA) in Clinical Psychopathology from the University of Paris VI – Jussieu. She trained in reputable psychiatric and general healthcare settings in the UK (The Maudsley Hospital), France (Sainte-Anne Hospital), and Lebanon (St. George University Hospital).
Her clinical expertise spans a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, sleep disorders, personality disorders, and interpersonal difficulties. She integrates multiple therapeutic modalities in her practice, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), psychodynamic therapy, and CBT for insomnia (CBT-I). Before joining the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology- Dubai branch, Carine worked for eight years at the General Medical Center in Dubai and served as a school psychologist in international schools and nurseries.
Since 2011, she has been part of ACPN, where she currently serves as the Clinical Lead for Psychology Services across the Dubai and Sharjah branches, leading a team of over 30 clinical psychologists. In addition to this role, Carine is internationally recognized for her pioneering work in the treatment of eating disorders in the Arab region. She founded and leads the region’s first multidisciplinary outpatient Eating and Weight Disorders Program, accredited as a CBT-E Center of Excellence. The program provides specialized care across all age groups for conditions such as anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder, ARFID, picky eating, and distress related to weight and body image. Committed to a non-stigmatizing, evidence-based approach, the team supports individuals in improving their physical and emotional well-being—regardless of body size—without promoting restrictive or appearance-focused practices. The program is fully multidisciplinary, bringing together clinical psychologists, dietitians, and medical doctors to ensure comprehensive and compassionate care.
A certified CBT-E therapist, trainer, and supervisor, Carine co-authored Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Young People: A Parent’s Guide (Routledge, 2021) with Dr. Riccardo Dalle Grave. She is a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) and has contributed to the development of global AED standards, including the Core Curriculum and Minimum Standards of Care.
Committed to capacity-building, Carine has delivered professional trainings across the Middle East for clinical psychologists, dietitians, and medical doctors. Her most recent initiative is an online CBT-E training program tailored to the cultural needs of the region, offered in collaboration with Oxford University’s CREDO.
She has also organized five international eating disorder conferences in the UAE, in partnership with the AED, bringing together global experts like Prof. Daniel Le Grange, Janet Treasure, and Ulrike Schmidt.
Previously the Vice-President of the Middle East Eating Disorders Association (MEEDA), she is now in the process of establishing a new regional organization: the Arab Eating Disorders Association (AEDA), dedicated to raising awareness, promoting evidence-based care, and expanding access to treatment throughout the Arab world.

Prof. Elias Chedid is a Consultant Psychiatrist at ACPN. He earned his Doctorate in Medicine (MD) in 1993 from Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Lebanon, and completed higher training in adult psychiatry from St. Joseph University and Paris Descartes Faculty of Medicine, France, in 1997. He is a licensed consultant in psychiatry with the DoH, Abu Dhabi.
Prof. Chedid’s career spans multiple prestigious roles with 27 years of clinical and academic expertise. In his clinical practice, Prof. Chedid joined the Department of Psychiatry and Addictology at Saint Charles Hospital in 1998, where he served as Head of Department from 2006 to 2018. He later joined the Psychiatry and Behavioral Department at Bellevue Medical Center in 2019. Prof. Chedid was appointed to the CME committee at the Arab Board of Psychiatry in 2023 and is a co-founding member of the Lebanese Association for the Protection of Children of War and their Families (APEG-Lebanon). Since 2012, he has been an active member of the Lebanese Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ALTCC). Before joining ACPN, he served as the Professor and Head of the Psychiatry Department at the Faculty of Medicine at the Lebanese University. He has also been an Associate Professor at the University of Balamand and an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the Lebanese University. He has extensive experience teaching undergrad and master’s psychology students in psychiatric disorders, psychobiology, clinical developmental psychology, and cognitive neurosciences, and has tutored many completing their master’s and PhD theses.
Prof. Chedid is highly skilled in both adult and child psychiatry, with deep expertise in mood disorders (bipolar and depressive disorders), schizophrenia, anxiety disorders (panic, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder), and substance use disorders.

Dr. Hamdy Moselhy is Consultant in Psychiatry at ACPN. He trained in psychiatry at Benha University Hospital, Egypt and acquired a Master’s degree in Psychiatry and Neurology in 1990 and followed on from there with an MD in 2002. Dr. Moselhy trained in the UK acquiring a Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in 1997, successively acquiring a Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK (MRCPsych) in 1997 and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) in 2011. Dr. Moselhy holds medical licensure in psychiatry in the UK and UAE.
With an experience spanning three decades, Dr. Moselhy’s cross-disciplinary approach has seen him excel at inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care, teaching, management & administration, research & publications, medico-legal systems, as well as voluntary & philanthropic initiatives. Before joining ACPN, he started the first de-addiction treatment and rehabilitation center in Dubai’s private sector in 2016. Alongside this, he setup the first Master’s program in Addiction Sciences at Dubai Medical College. Since 2006, Dr. Moselhy held posts as Professor and Consultant Psychiatrist in UAE University and Al Ain General Hospital eventually taking a the lead as Professor and Chairman of Psychiatry department for four years until 2016.
Before his arrival to the UAE, Dr. Moselhy spent over a decade in the UK starting off as Registrar Psychiatrist through the All Birmingham Training Scheme. His last appointment was Clinical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist for cases of substance abuse at the Sandwell Mental Health and Social Care NHS Trust for three years until 2006. Over the years, Dr. Moselhy’s insights across practical and theoretical teaching saw him train many postgraduate and undergraduate students at prestigious medical universities in UK and the UAE including University of Birmingham, Wolverhampton University, University of London and the UAE University.
Dr. Moselhy’s wide-ranging experience in psychiatry brings together the best of both worlds i.e. clinical and academics. As Senior Consultant Psychiatrist, he provides acute inpatient and outpatient service in general adult psychiatry, addiction and comorbidities. He has over a hundred published research papers and has authored books in the Arabic language as well.

Consultant in Geriatric Psychiatry

Ms. Hind Alboushra is a Clinical Psychologist at ACPN. She completed her master’s degree with honors in trauma at University of Ahfad, Sudan in 2017 with her bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology with honors from Ribat University, Sudan in 2014. She is a licensed psychologist with the Ministry of Health and Prevention in the UAE, and Sudanese National Council for Medical & Health Professions.
Ms. Alboushra has more than eight years of experience in the field of mental health and providing therapy services. Ms. Alboushra specializes in individual therapy for adults, young adults and teenagers, and provides evidence-based cognitive therapy. Since 2016, she has held positions in psychology on various fronts including direct provision of therapy services, academic teaching, and clinical program development and delivery through entities including teaching hospitals, federal bodies, NGOs, and privately held care providers.
Her field of experience is in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, prolonged grief disorder, and child behavioral problems. Her approach to treatment employs a range of integrative psychotherapy interventions including cognitive behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and other evidence-based treatment practices in psychology.

Dr. Mayada Abdulla Banaja is a Consultant Psychiatrist at ACPN. She holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, in 1996 progressing to a specialized diploma in Psychotherapy and Sociotherapy from Paris Descartes University (Paris V), France in 2007. Dr. Banaja is certified in group psychotherapy by the American Group Psychotherapy Association and has a fellowship in family systemic therapy from Centre Moncaeu, Paris, France. She is a licensed psychiatrist in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Her career spans two decades of experience in psychiatry across Saudi Arabia and France. Prior to joining ACPN, Dr. Banaja served as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist in King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz University Hospital managing outpatient and inpatient psychiatry and leading the residency program there. She held a dual role of clinical and academics with an oversight of tutoring and supervision as well as examinations for resident psychiatrists and psychologists. She previously also served in premier institutions across the kingdom including Prince Sultan Medical Military City for nine years until 2016, and as Deputy Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the Military Hospital in Riyadh for four years until 2015. Her career in France saw her focusing on teaching and training in psychiatry at Tarnier Hospital for four years until 2007.
Dr. Banaja’s expertise lies in various areas of psychiatry and psychotherapy, including general, adult psychiatry with a focus on personality disorders, gender dysphoria, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and major depressive disorder. Her professional interests are deeply rooted in enhancing mental health services, with a specific focus on group and family therapy, an area where she has substantial clinical and teaching experience.

Dr. Salwa Salem Khalaf AlHosani is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at ACPN. Dr. AlHosani holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree and a B.Sc. in Basic Medical Sciences from Arabian Gulf University, Bahrain in 2006 and 2004 respectively. She also holds the Arab Board (AB) in General Adult Psychiatry, a Clinical Diploma in Applied Psychological Skills & Competencies from UAEU which she attained in 2013 and 2014. She subsequently completed a Saudi Board-accredited fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. AlHosani is certified in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) and the Autism Diagnostic InterviewRevised (ADI-R).
Dr. AlHosani has over 18 years of experience in psychiatry, with a focus on child and adolescent mental health for the past 11 years. As a pioneer in the field, she is the first UAE national to hold this distinguished position contributing extensively to mental health care on clinical governance, and research fronts. Her expertise spans a variety of caseloads, including inpatient, consultationliaison, and outpatient care. She has held several leadership positions at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City -SEHA (SKMC), including Division Head of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Head of the Child Protection Committee. In 2023, she was appointed Acting Medical Director of Sakina in the Abu Dhabi Region. Throughout her career, Dr. AlHosani worked on collaborative and multidisciplinary teams, leading initiatives such as the first ABA clinic in Seha and the Autism Spectrum Disorder Early Intervention Program at SKMC.
Dr. AlHosani’s clinical expertise covers a wide range of neurological and psychiatric disorders, including neurodevelopmental disorders (Autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, and learning disorders), trauma, anxiety disorders, depressive and mood disorders, and early-onset psychosis as well as medication management. She has a strong interest in early intervention and evidencebased care. Her skills include developing individualized treatment plans, play therapy, cognitivebehavioral techniques, and a holistic approach that considers biological, psychological, and social factors. Dr. AlHosani takes a collaborative approach to care, working closely with families, schools, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and comprehensive support.
